WARD JUNIOR HOME INTERNATIONAL 2021

SELECTION POLICY

The England Junior Selectors don’t know how long the break in Orienteering is going to last but we are hopeful that we will be back in the forest by the time of this year’s Junior Home International.

That would mean that we need to provide a team to compete in the Event on 9th- 10th October 2021.

However with the cancellation of recent events, the Selectors are looking for help from the Regional Squad Coordinators in order to identify juniors for selection for the Home International.

In essence we will have to use ‘all known form’ in order to select our team.

We therefore ask for nominations of athletes from Regions on the form provided.
The selectors will at their discretion consider:

  • previous performances (preferably) in National and Major races
  • performance in other races up until the 8th August 2021.

The selectors further request that Squad Coordinators, if they have more than one athlete being nominated from their Region, list their nominations in order.

Whilst we have provided room for 4 nominations in each class we feel it likely that very few Regions will be able nominate 4 suitably qualified athletes.

May we also point out that the Home International consists of a Classic race and a Relay and therefore performance at sprint or urban races are unlikely to be considered.

Please support any nomination with comments that you think are relevant or are an explanation (eg injuries/fitness/ illness) and where results do not alone tell the whole story.

Please note that Nominations should be returned as soon as possible but no later than 11th July 2021.

If a further update to the policy is required, then this will be communicated as soon as feasible, in order to give athletes the best chance to plan and prepare.

Nominations should be sent to;
Keith Marsden (keith@familymarsden.org )

Many thanks for your support.
