England Team Manager’s Report

Summary

This year the Ward Junior Home International was hosted at Florencecourt by Fermanagh Orienteers. Raymond & Teresa Finley organised an excellent weekend.
The England team had three changes from that originally selected. Will Gardner replaced Peter Bray, Lucy Thraves replaces Charlotte Watson and Julie Emmerson replaced Katherine Hall.
Florence Haines and Jonny Crickmore acted as team captains for the weekend.
England retained the individual trophy by an increased margin on Saturday morning and convincingly finished in the first three places in both relays on Sunday.

Accommodation

The England team were accommodated at Benaughlin Cottages. All meals were self-catered apart from the Saturday evening meal at the prizegiving.

Travelling

Team members travelled to Northern Ireland by plane and used hired minibuses in the province.

Prize Giving & Social

This was held at the Gortatole Activity Centre along with a ceilidh.

Day 2 Relay Necarne

All eight English teams performed superbly on the day with the men’s teams finishing first, second, third, and sixth with the women finishing first, second, third and eighth. The first two team from each country count towards the team results with points decreasing from 16 to 2 in increments of 2.

Day 1 Individual Gortalughany

The results for the day are attached to this report.

England won five of the age categories, Harrison McCartney M14, Aidan Smith M16, Jonny Crickmore M18, Hannah Cleary-Hughes W14 and Florence Haines W18. The area used moorland with peat cuttings at the start and end of the courses. It was made more difficult by swirling mist for the duration of the competition. The first two athletes from each country count in this part of the competition with points being allocated from 8 to the winner down to 1 for the eighth placed athlete.
