Veteran Home International 2009 – Bulletin 1

DVO are hosting this year’s VHI on behalf of the English Orienteering Council and the East Midlands Orienteering Association.  The relays will be held on Saturday November 14th on Longshaw, last used for a major event for the National Event in 2007 and previously used for the Harvester in 2003.  This will provide a mixture of fast open terrain and intricate wooded quarried areas.  The individual event will be held on Eyam Moor also used for a national event in the past.  Eyam is nearly all open with intricate landslip areas.  There will be a public score event on Longshaw after the relays and a Regional event on Eyam.

Following feedback on the quality of accommodation at previous Home Internationals DVO is seeking to secure exclusive use of Hartington Youth Hostel. The traditional Saturday evening meal will be held there.  The youth hostel has been refurbished recently and provides a versatile mixture of room sizes and has acquired a good reputation locally for its receptions.  There will be plenty of room for other family members.  Plenty of space is available for team meetings etc.; meals and a bar will be available on the Friday evening and café facilities during the day on Saturday.  The hostel is in the village of Hartington about 30 minutes from the areas.  Manchester airport is about 45 minutes drive away and Doncaster, East Midlands or Birmingham airports would be feasible as well.

The total cost of accommodation and entries of £99 per team member will include 2 nights’ bed & breakfast, 2 packed lunches and the Saturday dinner as well as the individual and relay entry fees.  So that we can have sole use of the hostel confirmation from the Home nations will be required by 1st May and a deposit of £500 per team by 1st September.  Extra places for the accommodation & meals are likely to be £88 or £44 for children, with the events entered in the normal way.
